Win+V on Mac: how to get Windows-style clipboard history

October 17, 2026

On Windows, Win+V opens a list of everything you recently copied. On a Mac there is no such key, because there is no such list. If you switched and miss it, here is how to get it back.

What you are missing

Win+V on Windows shows recent clipboard items, lets you click one to paste, and lets you pin the ones you use often. It is small, but once you rely on it, copying on a Mac feels like a step back: one clip at a time, and the previous one is gone.

The Mac answer: a clipboard manager

macOS leaves this to apps. Any clipboard manager gives you the Win+V behavior; the differences are in how it looks, what it costs, and what it adds.

A Win+V that feels like macOS

Duplia was built with exactly this in mind: install it, grant one permission, and press ⌥ ⌥ V. A panel springs out of the notch (or opens at your cursor, on Macs without one). The keys work the way you would hope:

On top of what Windows gives you, clips are sorted by type (text, links, images, colours, code, files), show their source app and age, and you can pin favourites and search live. It is a one-time $9.99, with a 7-day free trial, no subscription and no account.

Other ways to do it

If you want free, Maccy does the job for text. If you want sync to your iPhone, Paste does it for a yearly fee. The comparison lays them side by side.

Frequently asked

What is the Mac equivalent of Win+V?

macOS has no built-in equivalent. A clipboard manager such as Duplia, Maccy or Paste gives you the same thing with its own shortcut. In Duplia it is Option twice, then V.

Does macOS have a clipboard history like Windows?

No. macOS keeps only the last copied item. You need a third-party clipboard manager for a history.

Can I use Win+V on a Mac keyboard?

No, there is no Windows key behavior in macOS. You pick a shortcut in the clipboard manager you install.
